Birth story: Dr. Hayes stripped my membranes at my appointment on Tuesday, the 15th, which must have gotten something started. By the time Bob got home from work Tuesday afternoon, I was having mild contractions about 5-6 minutes apart. Because I had such a short labor with Braden we decided to just head to the hospital and got there around 6:30. We spent the next 3 hours in triage, walking around and being monitored because my contractions weren't strong enough to get me to dilate more than 5 centimeters. They kept saying that they might send me home, but at 9:30pm, they finally decided to just admit me and the Dr. came and broke my water. I was GBS+, so they hooked me up to an IV and some antibiotics. They kept messing up my blood work, so had to draw it several times to get my epidural ordered (none of that natural stuff for me). I was dialated to a 7 1/2 when they finally got the epidural in and it relaxed me enough to be to a complete 10, less than 30 minutes later. I pushed for an hour before they finally decided that she was too big and wanted to try the vacuum - and with the help of the vacuum she was out 2 short pushes later. Yes, weighing in at 8 lbs and 14 ounces - she was bigger than we'd imagined. I got a 2nd degree tear, but it's not causing me any pain at all. Mylie does have a nice little bump on her head from the vacuum, but they say that it'll heal well. Her apgars were 9/9 and she's not showing any signs of jaundice yet.
She's very healthy and breastfeeding like an expert and only cries when she's really upset. We got many many comments from all the nurses about how she was the quietest baby on the floor. I didn't quite get enough antibiotics in before she was born, so we had to stay at the hospital for 48 hours after she was born. I would have wished to stay less than a day, but we're just glad she's here. Braden is an AWESOME big brother and MOM and DAD are in LOVE with our new little PRINCESS.
