Dr. Appointment

Had my first Dr appintment yesterday, didn't see the Dr. though. First I got to chat with the billing lady 'Rex' who informed me that it costs about $4500 for all my visits, lab work, ultrasounds, delivery and post-natal care. And she said that the hospital right now is running between $5-7,000. YIKES! Hopefully we can get our insurance figured out or we're going to really have to look at going to a birthing center. Rex had me pay $150 and then said that if we don't get the insurance we've applied for we'll have to start paying $500 a month. We'd never be able to afford that. Never.
Then I got to visit with Heidi. She's like a glorified nurse. She just talks to patients, doesn't actually do any real nursing stuff. And she's really nice.
She had me pee in a cup to do lab work and then we went to her office to talk. The office has these really cute comfy chairs and has shelves with books and tea pots on them. She had a bag of paperwork and random magazines and freebies that she gave me and she went over the paperwork inside. I had to sign a couple of papers, one that they test for HIV and another that I do not want genetic testing done later in the pregnancy.
Then she told me that Ralene, the nurse practioner that I like seeing, doesn't work there anymore and had quit to go back to school. Great for her, but yikes, she's the reason I started going to this office. I hope the new nurse practioner is just like her...her name is Stephanie.
Then Heidi took me out to get blood drawn. My least favorite part of being pregnant - NEEDLES! Yucky. I was sooo nervous and sure that I was going to get sick, but I think I did pretty good. They took 6 vials of blood! At the end, the lady that took the blood had to tell me to unclench my fist though - I felt soo silly, but I just hate doing that stuff.
Then I was done. Now I just get to go back on Monday for the 1st ultrasound. I'm pretty excited to finally see this baby and hope that we'll be able to hear the heartbeat. I'm nervous too though - hoping that everything with the baby is going to be okay.
